Farmers Support Grant for the 2024/2025 Financial Year

Farmers Support Grant 2024/2025 – Limpopo Department of Agriculture

Through the Farmers Support Grant, the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) provides targeted assistance to subsistence, smallholder, commercial, and organised farmers for the 2024/2025 financial year. In particular, farmers can access support for infrastructure development, production inputs, and mechanisation support services. As a result, the programme strengthens agricultural productivity, improves operational efficiency, and enhances long-term sustainability across the province.

Vision and Mission of LDARD

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development strategically mobilises, distributes, and utilises resources to achieve government objectives. In doing so, the Department actively supports the agricultural sector while simultaneously promoting inclusive economic growth.

Furthermore, the grant aligns directly with LDARD’s vision of building a united, prosperous, and sustainable agricultural sector. At the same time, it reinforces the Department’s mission to promote economic growth and food security through sustainable agricultural development and entrepreneurship. Consequently, farmers receive structured and meaningful support that improves both short-term productivity and long-term competitiveness.

Strategic Goals of the Department

To drive measurable impact, LDARD focuses on several strategic goals that strengthen the agricultural sector. These include:

  • Creating an enabling service delivery environment;
  • Protecting and sustaining natural agricultural resources;
  • Improving agricultural production levels;
  • Ensuring safe and tradable animals and animal products;
  • Delivering demand-led training and research programmes;
  • Building a competitive agricultural sector; and
  • Developing a skilled and empowered farming community.

Collectively, these goals promote economic growth, sector transformation, and environmental sustainability. Moreover, they ensure that agricultural development remains inclusive and future-focused.

Twelve Strategic Priorities of the Farmers Support Grant

In alignment with the revised Limpopo Growth and Development Strategy (LGDS), LDARD has adopted twelve strategic programme priorities. Importantly, these priorities guide implementation, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.

Firstly, the Department restructures state assets to empower farmers and communities through the Revitalisation of Smallholder Irrigation Schemes (RESIS) and Agricultural Rural Development Corporation (ARDC) projects. Secondly, it promotes and implements AgriBEE initiatives to advance transformation within the sector.

In addition, LDARD develops succession planning programmes that prioritise youth participation in agriculture. At the same time, it promotes research-based production methods and value-adding technologies to improve agri-business competitiveness.

Furthermore, the Department redistributes agricultural land while capacitating beneficiaries to establish sustainable commercial enterprises. It also implements poverty alleviation, household food security, and nutrition strategies to support vulnerable communities.

Moreover, LDARD establishes reliable information and communication systems to facilitate knowledge sharing. Simultaneously, it forms farmer-based commodity associations and agri-business entities to strengthen participation in local economic development opportunities.

Equally important, the Department provides advisory services to build institutional capacity within farmer formations. It also promotes sustainable natural resource utilisation and responsible land use management.

Finally, LDARD strengthens livestock production and disease control systems while advancing human capital development to increase knowledge and technical skills across the sector. Together, these priorities create a cohesive and results-driven development framework.

Service Delivery Approach

Importantly, the Department implements its agricultural support strategy through a participatory and demand-driven approach. In other words, it actively engages stakeholders to ensure that interventions address real production challenges.

Additionally, LDARD aligns its programmes with municipal planning frameworks to ensure coordinated and integrated development. As a result, farmers benefit from structured support mechanisms that respond directly to their operational needs.

Ultimately, this collaborative and strategic approach enhances accountability, improves service delivery efficiency, and strengthens the long-term resilience of Limpopo’s agricultural economy.fficiency, and strengthens long-term sector resilience.
